No. 17 Purdue clamps down after halftime to beat No. 13 Oregon

Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Saturday and No. 17 Purdue stifled No. 13 Oregon in the second half for a 65-58 Big Ten Conference road win in Eugene, Ore.Braden Smith added 15 points, seven assists and four steals for the Boilermakers (15-4, 7-1), who won their seventh straight game despite poor shooting. They made only 19 of 56 field goal attempts (33.9 percent), including 2 of 12 3-pointers.Purdue made up for it with foul shooting and its ability to stop the Ducks, who canned only 36 percent from the field, including 7 of 29 tries from long range. The Boilermakers sank 25 of 30 free throws.Nate Bittle scored 18 points and blocked six shots to lead Oregon (15-3, 4-3), which had a three-game winning streak snapped. Jackson Shelstad added 15 points but hit only 4 of 12 from the field, while Brandon Angel contributed 10 points before fouling out in the final minute.Bittle’s layup to open the second half gave the Ducks a 33-30 lead before Purdue held the hosts scoreless over the next 8:15 to jump ahead 41-33.Oregon closed within 42-41 on Shelstad’s 3-pointer with nine minutes left but then went cold again, this time going the next 3:45 without a point. Kaufman-Renn rattled off six straight points during that span to boost the Boilermakers ahead by seven.
